What is Dial & Ride?

Dial & Ride is York’s flexible bus service for residents who have difficulty in getting around.

It provides a door-to-door service, taking you from home to the city centre or major
supermarkets. Buses are equipped for people who have difficulty walking and for those
who use wheelchairs.

We also run reasonably priced seasonal trips out of York.

York Wheels runs the Dial a Ride service in the City under a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the City of York Council.

How do I use Dial & Ride?

Step 1: Find out in which ward you live

Step 2: Choose where and when you would like to travel from the timetable

Step 3: You need to book in advance by telephoning the office on 01904 551441 between 8am and 12 noon to book a seat or please fill out the transport form on this page

Step 4: Pay the driver when you travel.

Office opening times are weekdays from 8am until 12 noon but you can leave a message outside of these times. Please remember to always leave your name and phone number. There are limited seats available on each bus, so please book early. We can take bookings up to two weeks in advance.

What does it cost?

Full fare

£5.00 for a return journey : £2.50 for a single journey

Concessionary pass holders

£2.75 for a return journey : £1.50 for a single journey

Blind person’s pass holders travel free.

Dial & Ride offers a range of popular destinations such as shopping centres, supermarkets and the city center.

Locations available

  • Supermarkets at Monks Cross, Clifton Moor, Foss Island Road and Askham Bar
  • Shopping centre at The Vangarde Centre
  • City Centre dropping off at the St Sampson’s Centre, Church Street.

Due to a limited number of places available on each journey seats must be booked 24 hours in advance.
